Packaging Anatomy

The design of packaging is not only a creative venture, but there are also rules that come with this. Rules are vital for effective communication a brand has with their customers.  In fact, these little rules actually break down the anatomy of packaging and bring it to the vital parts. Every single part plays roles for a person to know in order to effectively design this.

Good packaging is vital, as this will stimulate the customers to move towards this packaging and their desires, and products that’ll satisfy those reassurances that you offer, and provide the brand recognition that this will offer.

In order to guide users towards purchases, packaging must be easy to recognize, innovative in a lot of cases, practical, easy to communicate, and also concise and simple for a person to read and understand.

There are main areas for people to look at, and they are the back, front and the sides, which we will talk about now.

The Front

You have the front, which is what attracts the customer, shows the brand and the product recognition, and from there, communicates this uniqueness too. This is the packaging a lot of customers will attract, and they’ll get the attention. You’ve got the front, where the logo and the brand name and also the product options are shown. This also leaves a lot of space to get creative, and you should be able to do so.

You also will want to make sure that you show the elements of the product which are there.

For example, Nestle shows the labels usually on the left of the box to show that their products are low in calories, and also good sources of vitamins and minerals. Some may also use celebrity endorsements to attract customers.

The back

Then you’ve got the back, which is reserved in most cases for the nutritional information, and other important aspects of the product. This is not as interesting, but in a lot of recent years, the back is actually relevant for packaging.  Did you know that most people actually read the labels on this? They want to look at the ingredients that are there, build packaging that shows that it’s important to the customer, and show the value nutritionally of this food. So, the back part of the packaging is now a vehicle for a lot of companies to foster a better relationship with their customers, so don’t forget about it!

The Sides

Finally, you’ve got the sides, which is where the extra goodies go, including social media pages, and any information that customers need. There are also places on the sides too where the brand story may go, if you have the dimensions for this.

This is good because it bolsters the relationships that consumers have with the companies.

While the sides may seem like nothing, they’re a tool used to market a lot of things, building the trust and excitement that people have for the products here.

In general, to create the best packaging, you need to make sure you understand all three of these. There are different factors that go into this, that do go beyond design, which is something that customers do need to know about and take advantage of too.

If you’re looking to boost your presence to customers and want to make your online and offline presence known, keep all of these factors in place and design packaging with this in mind, for it will help you build packaging that’s not only press to look at, but communicates everything that you as a brand  want to communicate.
